So Many Monopoly Lovers Out There, So Little Time

Well, I started a nice long post this afternoon, then got sucked into work shenanigans, and then I looked at the clock and realized that it’s late AND I’m incoherent, too much so to finish my post. (The clock didn’t tell me that second part, I figured that one out all by myself).

So anyways, I’ve learned something interesting today, which is that apparently there ARE people out there who like Monopoly, but none of you happen to live HERE. Which simply means that I shall have to convene with each of you at some point for a rousing game. And now that we’re entering into holiday season which should hopefully bring with it lots of time to play games with friends and family, tell me, aside from Monopoly, what other games do you love, and why?

Up tomorrow, things I miss about living overseas.

Bananagrams. (http://www.bananagrams-intl.com/) Like Scrabble but better.

Apples to Apples. Made even more awesome when you play with very good debators and/or BS-ers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apples_to_Apples)

Looking forward to hearing what you miss about living overseas. I’ll probably ditto every single point you have..

I’ll have to check out Bananagrams for sure. I’ve never loved Scrabble, but I feel I should. Or at least I kind of want to love it but can’t quite bring myself to do so. Anyways, Bananagrams looks much more entertaining!

Sign me up for a Trivial Pursuit tourney! I imagine you kick butt at that one!

For all that I retain useless knowledge, it turns out that somehow, I actually kind of suck at Trivial Pursuit. I’m not sure how that works…

The secret to Apples to Apples is to play with people who share your sense of humor. Otherwise it’s just dull.

Trivial Pursuit is awesome, though I haven’t played much since the Trivia Friends all moved away.

I’ve always enjoyed Scattergories and Balderdash, too — but since my dad’s side of the family has all passed on, no one will ever play Balderdash with me anymore.

That came out much more emo than I had intended.

Unsurprisingly, I’m with you on all those games. I bought Beyond Balderdash, and we’ve played it once. Seriously.

    P.S. Apparently they’re making a Monopoly movie.

    WTF?!

We’re planning on introducing you to Lost Cities: The Board Game this weekend.

I’m a fan of most of the Ticket To Ride games – they combine skill and luck and are just fun. The boards are beautiful and for some reason, I’m drawn to train games.

Scrabble is one of my all time favorites. I love word games of any sort.

We have these Mystery Rummy games that are great for 2-4 players. There’s a little bit of history on each card – depending on which one you play – Jack the Ripper, Bonnie & Clyde, Rue Morgue or Al Capone. The rules vary slightly for each game, but are basically rummy games.

Yahtzee Free for All is a good dice game my parents got recently. A great new twist on the old game. Pretty easy for anyone to play and little ones can “help” play it by rolling the dice for you.

We’ll be heading to a board game conference in Texas next week, so I’m sure I can recommend a few more then. :)

Seriously, THANK YOU for the comprehensive list. Now I know where exactly I should look the next time I get a hankering to buy a new game!! And bring on Lost Cities! I have no idea what it is, but I’m all for it.
